Island Tenebrionid Beetle

Endangered Animal #7
Island Tenebrionid Beetle

This is an Island Tenebrionid Beetle, better know as the Darking Beetle. It is said that this is the largest known tenebrionid in the world. A tenebironid is a Darking Beetle and their larvae are the well known meal worms. Before I get started on the beetle let me just say that in your daily life and you see a meal worm is means that either you have a wonderful pet meal worm in your house you you have a lovely meal worm in some flour that has been sitting in your pantry forever.

All right. Now I can discuss their habitat and their body.  They live on the Frigate Island Beetle itself in which is north of Madagascar. . In the picture they may look small but that is NOT a small beetle but really? Their length is 20-30 mm and they are completely flightless and do not get around much. They spend their whole day on a few dead trees in a small are. If they do go anywhere scientist have recorded this beetle traveling at "its" absolute farthest at 19 meters.
